Her determination to succeed at work has left her little time for son Brady and husband Steve. Miranda is working for a law firm where her boss feels threatened by the fact that she is a strong and capable woman. Sex and the City 2 takes place two years later and finds Carrie and Big (more so Carrie) struggling with the worry of becoming an old married couple who orders take out and watches too much television. I thought it was charming, funny and a bit melodramatic while capturing the essence of what made the show fun to watch. The primary focus in the first film was Carrie/Big’s wedding, with the subplots for the other three girls revolving around it. In my opinion everyone should have friendships like that. I think that what I like most about it is the bond shared by these four friends. This makes their onscreen chemistry undeniably fervent. The actresses that portray the four main players, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are all very familiar/comfortable/confident in these characters.
The things that I liked about the show were very much present in the film. It stayed true to the feeling of the show and its characters. What I appreciated about the writing is that it didn’t try to go outside of the lines simply because it’s a feature length film.

The fact that Sex and the City: The Movie plays out very much like an extended episode of the show is not a bad thing.

They include male interests for each of them and their characters from the series are reprised as are the actors who portrayed them. The story centers on Carrie but there are four distinct story lines in the film that involve each of the four women. This provides some foundation for those who have never watched the series. The film opens with just some quick snippets on each character as described by Carrie and includes clips from the show. I will say that being familiar with the characters and their history does enhance the experience a bit. Having watched the series is not a prerequisite to being able to enjoy the movie. After I saw the movie, I generally felt the same way. She said it was much like an extended episode of the show and very good. My wife went and saw the first film in the theater. Sex and the City: The Movie and Sex and the City 2 came out in 20 respectively.

To be fair though she is sometimes the glue that keeps the four of them together. Miranda is smart, judgmental, and whiney, which I sometimes see as her good points. Carrie is needy and unluckily in love which is why she is so fortunate to be surrounded by three such loyal compatriots. Samantha’s blunt nature and uncontrollable passion for sex can be hard to tolerate but, when the chips are down, she is the first one in your corner. Here is a genuinely nice woman and while she might be a little naive, she seems to be the best judge of character and rarely has much to offer at confession. Honestly, I found Charlotte to be the most appealing. I found that all of them (perhaps with the exception of Miranda) had an appealing side that at one point or another made them likeable. I thought it wasn’t bad and didn’t mind catching an episode when I could. For a show about four women living in NYC etc. Occasionally I would watch episodes with her. When this show was on HBO my wife loved to watch it. The series also stars cast regulars Kim Cattrall as PR executive Samantha Jones, who’s seen - and done - it all Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, still trying to hold on to the idea of happily ever after and Cynthia Nixon as corporate lawyer and mother Miranda Hobbes, a pragmatist trying to balance the idea of love with the realities of life. Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, a New York-based writer who explores and experiences the unique world of Manhattan’s dating scene, chronicling the mating habits of single New Yorkers.
